Illinois CASA Updates

Illinois CASA is dedicated to ensuring the health and safety of the CASA network, those we serve and the public as a whole. We have been carefully following the news, recommendations and expertise of health officials as the situation with COVID-19 has continued to evolve. We recognize that this is a serious concern and are making the well-being of the network our highest priority.

Therefore, we are officially postponing, until future notice, the Illinois CASA State Conference 2020.

Illinois CASA is in consistent communication with local CASA programs, National CASA and community partners to adjust any guidelines in order to protect employees, volunteers and the children and families served. For specifics on how this impacts your local CASA program, we recommend reaching out to your program directly as responses will vary based on your area. Find Your Local Program:

HOW CAN PEOPLE IN ILLINOIS SLOW THE SPREAD OF COVID-19?

The next two weeks are critical in slowing the spread of COVID-19. We must act now.

  • Stay home as much as possible, especially if you are sick, older, and/or have a medical condition.
  • If you are sick, stay home except to access medical care. If you are able to take care of yourself, stay home. If you need to see your doctor, call ahead.
  • Avoid gatherings of more than 10 people and non-essential trips into public.
  • Cancel events of more than 10 people.
  • Limit close contact (at least six feet) with other people. Employers should allow alternative work options as much as possible.

WHY OUTBREAKS LIKE CORONAVIRUS SPREAD EXPONENTIALLY & HOW TO “FLATTEN THE CURVE”

The spread can be slowed, public health professionals say, if people practice “social distancing” by avoiding public spaces and generally limiting their movement….To understand why, it is instructive to simulate the spread of a fake disease through a population.  Read.....
