Victim-Centered Approaches for Improving Services for All Crime Victims
A youth victim-centered approach can significantly enhance the safety and support provided to all youth who are further endangered within their environments. Participants will learn how reinforced approaches can address the unique needs of youth impacted by the fear of self-identifying as a victim and further decreased barriers to accessing appropriate support services. Being youth victim-centered requires responders to understand and minimize the barriers endangering youth survivor experiences such as teen dating, child abuse, and digital endangerment/recruitment crimes.
As a result of this training, participants will be able to:
- Describe the unique challenges faced by youth in seeking available support services.
- List two victim-centered advocacy strategies for including youth perspectives in families, child welfare, health services, and youth-specific digital communities.
- Identify relevant techniques that enhance resiliency in youth and their families to navigate the services available to them while safety planning for digital and real-life endangerment in disclosing harm.
